About the Artist: Julia Elizabeth Durall -
Photography is my first love, ever since I got hold of my first camera at age six. I've done many other things, but have always returned to photography. I enjoy shooting a wide variety of subjects – flowers, architecture, landscapes, extreme close-ups – anything beautiful that catches my eye.
One of my favorite types of photography is shooting products. I enjoy the process of making something out of nothing, and the challenge of finding some crazy household item to prop up the object and get it at exactly the right height and angle.
I am a people-watcher by nature, and enjoy capturing candid moments when people don't know they're on camera. My favorite place to take portraits is on location - preferably in natural light - where my subjects can interact with their environment and improvise based on what the location offers. I feel it gives the portraits a more organic feeling. Studio shoots can be really fun, too, but I like to take it outdoors whenever possible.
I've lived in Austin, Texas for most of my life, and I think it shows. I'm a down-to-earth, easygoing, t-shirt and jeans type of person, with lots of patience for getting the perfect shot.
My education and work experience include a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film production from The University of Texas at Austin, 3 1/2 years working at a pro photography store, and 2 1/2 years as a designer at a wholesale framing company.
I live with my wonderful family in Cedar Park, a suburb just northwest of Austin. I have three amazing sources of inspiration, as well...a daughter, a golden retriever, and a black & brown tabby cat.
